Over the last decade+, I’ve worked with athletes in different settings which led to me eventually overseeing the University of Colorado’s Psychological Health & Performance Department within Athletics. Working with the student-athletes on a wide range of athlete-specific issues became my passion. Being an athlete throughout my own life – along with my clinical training – has helped me understand the unique demands and pressures that come with competition. In order to thrive in your sport, you must be psychologically fit.
Whether you are a professional, collegiate or recreational athlete, there are unique challenges that you may be facing. Some of these challenges may include:
- Injury
- Transition or retirement out of sport
- Transition to a higher level of sport
- High pressure to perform in and out of sport
- Body image concerns
- Identity development outside of being an athlete
- High scheduling demands and difficulty finding balance
- Increased stigma of seeking help for mental health
- Balancing optimal performance while maintaining a healthy recovery
- Sport and Elite Performance
